The NV State Education Association (NSEA) — the teachers trade union that unsuccessfully sought to assign public funding for a new A’s ballpark in Las Vegas to a public ballot cobbler's last summer — is taking a second swing at the A’s ballpark deal through the courts.
On Monday, an NSEA political activeness citizens committee called Strong Public Schools sued in Kit Carson City’s First Judicial Margaret Court to quash SB1 on technical grounds. That bill, passed inward June, allocated $380M inwards tax money to monetary fund a Las Vegas arena for the Oakland Athletics.
The suit — which names Nevada, Gov. Joe Lombardo, and say treasurer Zach Conine as defendants — alleges that SB1 violates Nevada’s constitution. As lawmaking that creates public revenue, the suit of clothes alleges, the account required a two-thirds bulk voter turnout inwards both Nevada’s Assembly and Senate, which it didn’t get.
